An Artistic Pursuit in Russia

Saint Petersburg and Moscow are almost noted immediately but Novosibirsk being the third populous city may be a new name to you. Some recommended sights if you want to see the state theatres, you could check out the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. Nicknamed, ‘Siberian Coliseum’, this is the largest yet one of the most important theatre. It is also a special architectural masterpiece. Some debated that Bolshoi Theatre is the best. But this Opera and Ballet theatre of the state has the most technically advanced installations such as the computerized stage which is one of the largest in Eurasia. And also to mention is the acoustic screen ceiling which holds a six meters diameter chandelier atop. In the exterior is the big self-supporting dome’s width of 60 meters. Amazing vestibule. With more than 10,000 square meters of total area, part of the upper gallery with sixteen sculptures are true beauties.

Balshoi Theatre

At times it is spelled as Bolshoy Theatre, this historic place holds renowned opera and ballet performances. The most prestigious schools of ballet in the world, that is the Moscow State Academy of Choreography is the affiliate. Well-known ballerinas such as Maya Plisetskaya are the graduates with an ultimate title. Being a legendary ballerina, she was bestowed the title: prima ballerina assoluta. Swan Lake, by Tchaikovsky was premiered from the very beginning at the Bolshoi. It is here that the known repertoire like the Nutcraker, Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, Adam’s Giselle as well as Khachaturian’s Spartcus were performed here. Other specialization are the Russian classics opera, including Glinka’s A Life for the Tsar, Rimsky-Korskov’s The Tsar’s Bride and the Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov. Other international composers Puccini, Rossini and Verdi had also performed here in this world famous theatre.

The State Art Museum in Novosibirsk was opened since 1958 and it was also called the Regional Picture Gallery. You can see lots of fine art collections, such as painting, graphic arts, decorative art, sculpture, exhibitions and contemporary as well as applied art. From icon-painting of the 16th century to recent works of modern artists. Even well-known Siberian artist are featured here. There International Biennials of graphic arts are also organized here. Some other known international artists like Rodolfo Aguero and Steve Danzig from Australia, Alicia Candiani from Argentina, Pascal Yelle from Canada, Viktor Koen from Greece; Yoichiro Kawaguchi from Japan,  Eugeny Bortnikov, Svyatoslav Ponomarev from Russia and last but not least, Vladimir Martynoff, Valery Orlov / Alexandra Mitlyanskaya.
