Irkutsk is one of the largest cities on Russia and an important cultural and administrative center. The city has diverse tourist attractions and there are many religious buildings as well.

We already presented two of the most important ones including the Znamensky Monastery and the Bogoyavlensky Cathedral and today we present four more famous churches in Irkutsk that include the Preobrazheniya Gospodnya church, the Raising of the Cross Church in Irkutsk, the Church of Our Saviour and the Holy Trinity Church. All of them are unique in their own ways, and most imprtant, all of them are beautiful.

 

The Preobrazheniya Gospodnya in Irkutsk

The Preobrazheniya Gospodnya Church in Irkutsk is located in front of the Volkonsky House Museum and is visited by most tourists who come to the museum. It dates from 1800 and is one of the oldest buildings in the area. The exterior has a tall bell tower of about 10 m, where the visitors can admire the entire panorama of the city.

The Raising of the Cross Church in Irkutsk

The Raising of the Cross Church is licated on the Sedova street at no. 1 in Irkutsk. It dates from 1758 and is one of the most beautiful churches in Siberia built in Baroque architectural style. This is one of the most colorful buildings in the city. The exterior has many shades of orange, blue, red, green and burgundy. The entrance is dominated by a massive green wooden door. The exterior walls have many large windows of rectangular shape.

The Church of Our Saviour in Irkutsk

In the historical center of Irkutsk, lies one of the most beautiful churches in the region, the Church of our Savior. This religious monument is believed to be the oldest in the city. The church dates from 1706 and was built in the center of a wooden fortification. The building is approximately 42 m high and has a tower with a height of 12 meters. It has an impressive exterior, almost all the walls are covered with frescoes depicting the lives of the Apostles and has many square glass windows. The shrine was built in 1710 and contains a wooden statue of the Apostle Sava.

The Holy Trinity Church in Irkutsk

The Holy Trinity Church is located in downtown Irkutsk and is a landmark because it says that it has miraculous powers and in hard times the icon of Virgin Mary in the insode is crying with tears of blood. The religious monument dates from 1763 and is built in baroque style, characteristic of that century. The outer walls are white with green elements, providing a rich decor with stone carving and rectangular stained glass windows depicting certain scenes from the Bible.
